Ford Performance has unveiled the new Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 prototype, designed for motorsports and aims to break several new quarter-mile NHRA world records.
The Cobra Jet 1400 made headlines in 2020 when it debuted as a prototype, impressing with its wheelie-popping acceleration off the start line. In 2021, driver Bob Tasca III set a world record for a full-bodied electric vehicle with a quarter-mile time of 8.128 seconds and a top speed of 171.97 mph.
The Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 is a performance upgrade over the standard Mustang Cobra Jet. It features upgraded design and performance features, including a name referencing Ford’s performance heritage. The Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 comes with three performance-oriented packages. The base package includes improved suspension, an upgraded transmission and a supercharger kit that can boost the car’s power output to 425 horsepower.
The second package is the Track Package which includes even more comprehensive upgrades such as larger brakes and sticky tires for better cornering ability on racetracks or twisty back roads. Finally, the Drag Pack adds even greater potential for straight-line speed thanks to components like drag slicks and a special torque converter optimized for drag racing applications.
The owner will also be able to customize their Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800s further by choosing from a variety of exterior colours, interior options, wheel sizes, exhaust systems and other accessories available through Ford Performance Parts catalogues. All these modifications make this pony car stand out from its peers regarding both looks and performance capabilities on the race track or road course!
The Super Cobra Jet 1800 has a new powertrain that uses the same four PN-250-DZR inverters as the Cobra Jet 1400 but is now attached to a new transmission from Liberty. The powertrain is now powered by a completely redesigned, lighter battery system, resulting in a weight reduction of hundreds of pounds.
