David Jaffe, the creator of God of War, has once again stirred up controversy with his remarks on Twitter, this time targeting Nintendo Switch fans. Jaffe, who has been playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom recently, expressed his disappointment with the game’s visuals and called out reviewers for not being more critical. With a screenshot from Tears of the Kingdom, he declared it to be “staggering how this game could look like this without being at least a little dinged by reviews.” Jaffe stood his ground despite receiving support from fans.
Since I began making games professionally 20 years ago, I’ve tended to emphasize gameplay over visuals. That said, this game has distractingly ugly parts. Deal with it or don’t but it’s true,” Jaffe responded to one commenter.
A few days later, Jaffe continued to provoke Zelda fans by sharing an AI-generated image of Link, suggesting that Nintendo should take notes on art design. When a fan pointed out that Jaffe seemed to enjoy baiting the Nintendo fan base, he admitted that while it may be terrible of him, he finds it fascinating how easily they can be provoked.
While the graphics in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may highlight some limitations of the Switch hardware, it has not significantly impacted sales. As of now, the game has already sold over 10 million copies worldwide. The anticipation for the Breath of the Wild sequel has also taken over social media, with players sharing their achievements on platforms like Twitter and TikTok. With the Nintendo Switch now over six years old, many wonder when the company’s next console will be released. Fans seem content with the current console for the time being, even though a release within the next year seems likely.

Tears of the Kingdom is a visually stunning game, featuring lush landscapes and vibrant colors. The characters and environments are all intricately detailed, creating an immersive gaming experience. So far in my playthrough, I’ve been impressed with the attention to detail: from the textures of rocks and trees to lighting effects – everything looks great! The music also sets a mood that adds depth to the story, perfectly capturing its epic fantasy feel. If you haven’t tried it yet, Tears of the Kingdom is definitely worth checking out!
