The intense Season 3 finale of “The Equalizer” left fans on the edge of their seats as the major betrayal faced by Robyn McCall, played by Queen Latifah, came back to haunt her. The episode ended with a cliffhanger, setting the stage for an action-packed Season 4, which was confirmed by CBS in May 2022.
The finale began with Robyn and her companion, Mel, played by Liza Lapira, being chased in an empty warehouse while trying to avoid gunfire. The episode then flashed back to earlier in the day, depicting seemingly ordinary activities such as Robyn working on her car and Mel and Harry grocery shopping. However, their lives took a dark turn when they were all attacked.
Surviving the attack, Robyn and Mel embarked on a mission to uncover the truth behind a syringe that the attackers had tried to inject into Robyn’s neck. They discovered that the syringe contained a truth serum with a deadly self-destruct mechanism. Injecting the serum would result in death within 90 minutes. The coordinated attack was revealed to be orchestrated by a group of rebels from Venezuela who felt betrayed by Robyn and her team when CIA orders forced them out of the country. Robyn’s decision to leave the CIA was driven by the moral dilemma of abandoning her teammates when they needed help the most. But why was she being targeted now after all these years?
As the tension escalated, Harry raced against time to find the antidote for the truth serum, which had been injected into Dante, played by Tory Kittles. In the midst of the chaos, Robyn and Mel overheard Dante confessing his love for Robyn over the phone. Meanwhile, Delilah and Aunt Vi found themselves held hostage in a convenience store by a gunman named Drake.
Aunt Vi managed to diffuse the situation by empathizing with Drake’s circumstances, ultimately preventing any harm. The police intervened, and everyone in the store was unharmed. However, Dante’s safety remained uncertain as the lethal effects of the serum began to take hold. With no antidote available, Harry resorted to using a defibrillator to revive him.
As the season concluded, Robyn and Fisk remained captive, while Mel, Harry, and Dante found themselves bound to chairs in a room filled with kerosene. The room had cameras, and Michelle forced Robyn to watch as a lit match was thrown into the fuel, igniting the room. The season ended with a terrified expression on Robyn’s face.
Although Season 4 has been confirmed, production may be delayed due to the WGA writers’ strike. Fans eagerly await the premiere to witness the characters’ fate and the continuation of the gripping storyline.
